SSU Jazz Orchestra with guest clinician Mel Martin
As a prelude to their Oct 13 performance of Benny Carter's "Kansas City Suite," the SSU Jazz Orchestra, directed by Doug Leibinger, will hold an open rehearsal during jazz forum. World-renowned saxophonist Mel Martin will serve as guest conductor and lecturer.
Mr. Martin has a long association with Benny Carter - they co-led a band in the 1990's - the CD "Just Friends - Mel Martin Benny Carter Quintet Live at Yoshi's" was released in 2007 to coincide with Carter's centennial birthday. Martin continues to honor Carter with "The Benny Carter Tribute Band" that will appear at the Jazz Educators Network conference in 2012.

GMC 1029 is in Music Education Hall adjacent to the Green Music Center. Park in Lot L.
