1 Dead In Head-On Collision On Highway 12 West Of Santa Rosa
A Sig-alert was in effect while the roadway was shut down in both directions.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — One driver died and the other was hospitalized with injuries in a head-on collision Wednesday on state Highway 12 west of Santa Rosa.
The fatal crash was reported shortly after 10:30 a.m. east of Irwin Lane. The California Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation indicated a GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling eastbound and drifting into the opposing westbound lane where it collided head-on with a Chevrolet flatbed truck.
There was major damage to both trucks.

"The male driver of the GMC unfortunately passed away as a result of the collision," CHP Officer David deRutte said. "At this time, the name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification."
The male driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries.

"There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other vehicles were involved," deRutte said.
A Sig-alert was issued around 11 a.m. as SR-12 was blocked in both directions.
The roadway was reopened to through traffic at 1:42 p.m.
