A fire near the water heater of a Rohnert Park home Tuesday morning may be a lesson for other homeowners, public safety officials said.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — A fire near the water heater of a Rohnert Park home Tuesday morning may be a lesson for other homeowners, public safety officials said.

The fire was reported at 8:20 a.m. on Circle Drive. Officers were sent to the home and cleared residents and some small animals in cages from the residence.

Fire personnel stopped the spread of the fire, which was limited to the garage and an interior wall near the water heater, according to the public safety department.

But smoke managed to get into the attic and part of the living space.

Public safety officials said the quick actions of the residents and neighbors, who called for help, prevented the fire from becoming much larger.

Residents are encouraged to keep the area around water heaters clear of flammable materials. Public safety officials said to listen for possible problems and clean the area of dust often.
