Flood Watch Issued For Rohnert Park, Cotati As Storm Soaks Region

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings, the National Weather Service said.

ROHNERT PARK AND COTATI, CA — As an atmospheric river continued to drench the Bay Area, a flood watch took effect Monday for the North Bay, the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area said.

The flood watch was expected to remain in effect until 7 p.m. Monday for Coastal North Bay, the interior valleys of the North Bay, and the North Bay mountains, including the cities of Woodacre, Sausalito, Santa Rosa, Lagunitas-Forest Knolls, Angwin, Rohnert Park, Cotati, San Rafael, Tamalpais-Homestead, South Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Napa and Novato

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible," the weather service said. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations."

Forecasters said a line of heavy rain was moving through the region, with the potential of producing periods of heavy rain through the early evening hours.

"Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks," the weather service said. "Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible."

Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings, and those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop, the weather service said.
