Friends Raising Money for Man Burned in Forestville Cabin Fire

The Monday afternoon blaze also destroyed the residence and six vehicles.

A fire that destroyed a Forestville man’s cabin and six vehicles Monday afternoon started in an upstairs living room but the cause of the blaze has not been determined, a fire investigator said.

Jim Fay, who lived with his mother, daughter and one other person, suffered burns in the fire at 3:20 p.m. Monday on Laurel Avenue in the Summerhome Park area of Forestville in west Sonoma County.

Fay was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and was transferred to the Bothin Burn Center at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

Fay’s friends are trying to raise $15,000 for his medical expenses on GoFundMe.com.

As of this morning, $14,525 had been donated. Approximately 90 firefighters from eight fire agencies responded to the cabin fire, Forestville Fire Department investigator Michael Franceschi said.

Besides the cabin, the fire destroyed four vehicles and two motorcycles, Franceschi said.

Another cabin in the wooded area sustained moderate damage and three others sustained damage from radiant heat, Franceschi said. The damage to the cabin and homes in the vicinity is estimated at $450,000.

It might not be possible to determine the cause of the fire because the cabin was destroyed, Franceschi said.
