Giants Start Strong

After coming out of the All-Star Break with a series sweep, they continue their push against Atlanta.

The team said all the right things before they left town on a 6 game road trip. They needed to stay hydrated, prepare properly, and be ready for the heat.

Apparently it wasn't just talk.

On Tuesday night the Giants hammered the Atlanta Braves 9-0 to start their road trip on a high note. Barry Zito pitched extremely well giving up 3 hits over 7 innings and Buster Posey cleaned up at the plate going 3-for-5 with 3 runs batted in. Even Zito was in on the scoring binge with an RBI single. The only down note of the game was when Hector Sanchez appeared to sprain his knee running to second base in the fourth inning.

For this road trip the team travelled on Sunday instead of Monday to allow a day to acclimate to the time change as well as the temperature. It seems to be working so far.

Can the Giants keep rolling? Today they face the Braves again with Volelsong going for his 8th win at 4:10 p.m. Currently the Giants are 50 and 40 with a 3-game lead over the Dodgers but their record away from AT&T Park is only 21-24.

They conclude their series with Atlanta on Thursday with an early game before heading to Philadelphia for a 3-game stretch from Friday to Sunday. The boys will fly home on Sunday night before opening a 3-game series against the Padres on Monday followed by a big 3-game match-up against the Dodgers.

You can watch the Giants games on Comcast Sports Net Bay Area channel 40. Tickets are still available for the Padres and Dodger series from Stub-Hub.
