Green Music Center Announces Summer Season

Yo Yo Ma, Pink Martini, Independence Day concert and more planned over next few months. Pack a picnic and listen to some great performances by world-reknown musicians

 

The Green Music Center unveiled its summer offerings Tuesday, including an Independence Day concert and fireworks, well-known retro pop group Pink Martini, Yo Yo Ma as well as musicians from Algeria, Russia and other countries.

General admission tickets go on sale May 14, and include the more affordable lawn option that will allow for a total of 6,000 people to enjoy every show at Sonoma State University’s new concert venue.

(If you’ve donated to the center, you get first dibs by buying yours starting April 24. If you're a season pass holder or have a MasterCard, you can buy tickets starting April 30.)

The season officially kicks off July 4 with a family-friendly Independence Day orchestral concert, followed by Pink Martini, describes as a blend of jazz, classical and carabet on July 14.

On July 24, country singer Josh Groban who rose to fame with the Grammy-nominated single “You Raise Me Up” entertains, followed by “Music From the Movies” when the San Francisco Symphony performs scores from popular films.

Yo-Yo Ma, who played a sold out show at the center in January, returns to Weill Hall with The Goat Rodeo Sessions, sharing the stage with fiddler Stuart Duncan, bassist Edgar Meyer, and Chris Thile on mandolin.

On August 11, watch El Gusto, a film about a group of Jewish and Muslim artists separated by war in Algeria more than 50 years ago but brought together by a shared passion for Chaâbi – a musical blend of Berber, Andalusian, and Flamenco-influenced sounds. The group, which has been called “The Buena Vista Social Club of Algiers,” performs following the film.

Ticket prices range from $5 to $225 and discounts are available for youth (ages 12 and under receive 50 percent off lawn seating only), SSU students, faculty and staff.
