Initially the company was launched in New York and has slowly spread across the nation. They currently have over 11 million to go with events in over 45,000 cities. That includes plenty of great social groups in and around Sonoma County!

The great thing about Meetup is that there is usually a group for just about anything somewhere near to you. Interests and groups range from photography to kayaking and everything in between.

Into mountain biking? The Annadel Mountain Biking group welcomes riders of all ages to join them on regular rides at the state park. Maybe are looking for fun events to do with a singles vibe? The North Bay 35 to 55 Singles Happy Hour group fits that bill. If you enjoy hiking then you can check out the Sonoma County Wanders, a group that boasts well over 600 members. They usually do a hike almost every day of the week ranging from short and relaxing to strenuous.

Meetup groups can be set up by anyone and usually you can join whatever type of group sparks your interest. Food and wine groups are very popular in Sonoma County with the Petaluma Wine Meetup Group that has 140 wine enthusiasts or the Sonoma County Singles Wine Society with their 550+ members.

Each group has its own style and dynamic dictated by the organizer and members. When Ken Cozine took over the North Bay Singles group his goal was to create a comfortable environment for people to relax and have a good time. To help in that effort he has learned to offer a variety of events all over the county, typically with a low overhead cost to include as many people as possible.

From the legendary, Dive Bar Mondays to regular Comedy Nights at Sweet River Grill, he keeps things friendly and casual so people can relax, mingle, and just have fun. This summer the group has done Music in the Park in Healdsburg, attended fireworks in Santa Rosa, and had a BBQ in Sebastopol just to name a few events.

Other groups do their best to fit the needs of the members such as the Sonoma County Wanders. The primary organizer, Leigh, organizes many of the hikes and works hard to ensure that everyone feels like part of the group. But as the group has expanded she has gladly let other people organize and host events. The end result is a wide variety of hikes available for people from Calistoga to Point Reyes.

Many people join a lot of groups and then attend events when schedules permit. Most groups are casual in that manner and a great way to meet new friends that have similar interests in and around Sonoma County as well as expand your social circle.
