Heroes Head Home: Sonoma Co. Photo Of The Week
One of several thousand fire crews from neighboring states heads home after coming to the aid of Sonoma and Napa counties.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Since the wildfires broke out Oct. 8 in Napa, Sonoma and neighboring Northern California counties, some 10,000 firefighters have come from across California, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and other U.S. states to help save the region from further destruction.
This shot taken Wednesday by local photographer Al Francis shows a fire crew from Gig Harbor, Washington heading southbound from Santa Rosa on U.S. Highway 101. The firefighters were flying the American flag on their engine as they set out on their journey home.
