SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol is on the lookout for a Humvee that was stolen from the National Guard Armory in Santa Rosa.

Someone scaled the fence of the California National Guard Armory, 1500 Armory Drive, around 10:30 p.m. Monday, got into a Humvee, started it up and "used it as a battering ram" to exit through the main gate, CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins told Patch.

"Somehow this person had the knowledge or the luck to get it started," Hawkins said. "He then smashed his way through the front gate."

Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the CHP — the law enforcement agency for state buildings such as the armory — received a phone call about a reckless driver in a Humvee with no lights on at River Road between Barnes and Woolsey. The CHP received two more calls from the same area and officers responded but did not find the Humveee and there were no reports of sightings since, Hawkins said.

"To this moment we continue to search," Hawkins said.

Likewise, anyone who sees the Humvee should call 911.

The Humvee is green, it has no license plates and the bumper has been painted black.

"Hopefully we will get it back," Hawkins said. "For now, put this in the unsolved mysteries column."
