ROHNERT PARK, CA — Three Rohnert Park schools were placed on lockdown Thursday while law enforcement responded to a report of a man with a gun.

Around noon Thursday, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a call of a person who possibly brandished a gun on the Copeland Creek Trail near Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park DPS Deputy Chief Kevin Gilgore said.

The caller said a man displayed the handle of a firearm, then left the area. The man was described as 30-40 years old with light skin color and a thin build wearing a black T-shirt and cargo shorts, Kilgore said.

Public safety officers quickly responded and searched the area for the man but did not find him.

"Additionally, Public Safety Officers received conflicting information regarding the description of the male and his last direction of travel," Kilgore said.

Because of the proximity of the incident and out of an abundance of caution, school administrators consulted with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and placed Rancho Cotate High School, Lawrence Jones Middle School and Richard Crane Elementary School on lockdown, Kilgore said.

After 45 minutes and the determination that there was no ongoing threat to the safety of the school campuses, the lockdown was lifted, Kilgore said.

The investigation was continuing; anyone who may have information about the incident was asked to call the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch at 707-584-2600 and refer to case number 22-3724.
