Man Arrested After Disappearing With Motorcycle On 'Test Drive' From Penngrove

The owner called cops after allegedly seeing the suspect riding the bike on Friday in Santa Rosa area.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested a man on Friday who allegedly stole a Honda motorcycle earlier this month. On Friday, a man called officers to let them know he had located the man who stole a motorcycle from him in Penngrove on July 4, CHP officials said.

Officers had responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle on July 4 after the victim said he had let the suspect test drive a 2005 Honda motorcycle and then the suspect never brought back the motorcycle, CHP officials said.

Officers identified 28-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Santa Rosa as the suspect, according to the CHP.

When the victim called authorities on Friday, he told officers he spotted Gonzalez riding the stolen motorcycle and was following him, CHP officials said. Officers advised the victim not to confront Gonzalez, CHP officials said.

The victim followed the suspect to an apartment complex on Papago Court. When the victim approached Gonzalez, Gonzalez allegedly confronted the victim with a knife, according to the CHP. The victim ran towards West Steele Lane and Gonzalez continued to pursue him.

Two Santa Rosa police officers observed the incident and detained both men, CHP officials said.

When CHP officers arrived, they arrested Gonzalez, who had three additional warrants for his arrest for a total of $45,000 on various offenses including driving on a suspended license, receiving stolen property and identity theft, according to the CHP.
