Motorcyclist Killed In Rohnert Park Collision

BREAKING: The driver of a truck that collided with the motorcyclist was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

ROHNERT PARK, CA – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck driven by a suspected DUI driver Wednesday near Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. Fabian Carreras-Hermosillo, 23, of Rohnert Park died shortly after the crash on Snyder Lane in front of the University Square shopping center, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Department officials say at 5:56 p.m., multiple callers reported that a motorcyclist and green Ford truck had collided and the motorcyclist was severely injured. When officers and fire personnel arrived within three minutes, Carreras-Hermosillo was in the roadway and bystanders were giving him CPR, officials said.

"The driver of the green truck was walking away from the scene toward the commercial establishments," said Rohnert Park DPS Commander Aaron Johnson. "Officers quickly detained the driver and identified him as 63-year-old Rohnert Park resident, Robert Bosch. While officers were speaking to Bosch, he displayed signs that he was under the influence at the time of the collision."

Officials said paramedics were rushing Carreras-Hermosillo to a hospital when because of the severity of the injuries he suffered, he died en route.

"His family went to the hospital and was notified of his death," Johnson said.

Meanwhile, Bosch was detained and taken to the police station for evaluation by a drug recognition expert. A preliminary investigation revealed he was allegedly driving with a blood alcohol content of .26 percent -- three times over the legal California limit of .08 percent, Johnson said.

Bosch was transported to a Sonoma County jail and booked on suspicion of felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. His bail was set at $100,000, Johnson said.

Snyder Lane was closed for three hours Wednesday evening as the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Major Accident Investigation Team worked to determine the circumstances of the collision.

After compiling evidence and witness statements, Rohnert Park DPS officials believe Carreras-Hermosillo was riding his 2008 Honda CBR 600 south on Snyder in the far left lane and Bosch was driving his 1999 Ford Ranger north on Snyder just past Rosana Way when Bosch made a left lane change and got into the left turn lane to enter University Square. Investigators believe Carreras-Hermosillo was approaching the intersection at approximately 30-35 mph when Bosch made a left turn into the path of the motorcycle. Carreras-Hermosillo could not slow his motorcycle due to the proximity of the truck and struck the right side of the bed between the cab and rear axle, investigators believe.

Carreras-Hermosillo was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in the street; his helmet was found with major damages, Johnson said.

Investigators believe Bosch stopped his truck on the grass and curb after hitting a sign in the entrance to the parking lot and began to wander away from the scene.

"There is no indication Bosch tried to render aid to Carreras-Hermosillo," Johnson said.

The investigation is ongoing, with more accident reconstruction work to be done, the commander said.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Sgt. Marshall at 707-584-2600.

"The Department and City sends its condolences to the victim’s family during this very difficult time," Johnson said.
