Music Legends, Writer Headed To Sonoma County

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — What brings Boz Scaggs, Anne Lamott, Lyle Lovett, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Mavis Staples, and the Aga Khan Master Musicians under one roof? Weill Hall’s coming season.

Boz Scaggs will open Weill Hall’s coming lineup Friday, launching seven months of concerts, theater, dance, and conversation at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center in Rohnert Park.

Scaggs will bring his Rhythm Review 2026 tour to Weill Hall and its lawn. The singer, songwriter, and guitarist rose to fame during the 1970s and scored enduring hits with “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” from his 1976 album, “Silk Degrees.”

Women in Conversation will feature Anne Lamott on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The bestselling author uses novels and essays to examine loss, faith, and motherhood with honesty and humor. The moderated conversation will explore themes that shape her work.

Lyle Lovett and His Small Large Band will perform in October. Lovett has released 14 albums and blends country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues with storytelling that stretches the boundaries of American music.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo will take the stage in February. The South African vocal group has performed for more than 65 years and carried messages of hope and love through the apartheid era. Nelson Mandela called the ensemble South Africa’s cultural ambassadors to the world.

Mavis Staples will perform in March. Staples rose to prominence with her family’s band, the Staple Singers, and later earned recognition in the blues, rock, and gospel halls of fame. Her music draws from rhythm and blues while carrying messages shaped by her civil rights activism.

Also in March, Step Afrika will energize Weill Hall with stepping and traditional African dance.

The Aga Khan Master Musicians will close the listed schedule in April. The ensemble creates music rooted in the Middle East, the Mediterranean Basin, Central Asia, and China while using tradition to pursue new forms of expression.

The Green Music Center serves as Sonoma State University’s performing arts center and houses the university’s Department of Music, the Santa Rosa Symphony, and Sonoma Bach. Its 1,400-seat Weill Hall features a rear wall that opens to lawn seating.

• November — What You Won’t Do for Love and Santa Rosa Symphony: Echoes of Innocence
• December — Santa Rosa Symphony: Winterlude—Handel’s Messiah
• January — New Century Chamber Orchestra
• February — Kenny Barron and Let Love Lead: A Celebration of Black Music
