Pair Accused Of Looting, Other Crimes In School Burglary: SRPD
Officers recovered eight laptops and a two-way radio reported stolen in the burglary of a Santa Rosa school, police said.
SANTA ROSA, CA — Police tracked down and arrested two people Monday who are accused of looting in the burglary of a Santa Rosa school. Officers responded at 6:45 p.m. Monday to Helen Lehman Elementary School, 1700 Jennings Ave., where school officials told them a burglary had taken place that morning, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Dave Marconi said.
The burglary of a classroom was discovered Monday morning by school personnel. School officials did an inventory and determined eight HP laptops and a two-way handheld radio were missing.
"An employee at the school recognized the female suspect from the surveillance video system recording," Marconi said. "That suspect was identified as 41-year-old Santa Rosa resident Dawn Monique Malicay."

Malicay has an extensive criminal history of theft and narcotics arrests, Marconi said.
The investigating officer also recognized her, and upon viewing the surveillance video was able to identify the other suspect as Alejandro Gonzalez Gonzalez, a 40-year-old homeless subject, Marconi said.

Gonzalez Gonzalez also has an extensive criminal history which includes narcotics and theft cases, and is a convicted felon from a firearms case in 2009 and a burglary case in 2011. He is also currently on Sonoma County probation, police said.
When officers contacted Malicay in front of her residence, one of the stolen laptops was on the front of a car she was standing next to, Marconi said.
Malicay was arrested without incident and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of burglary.
Officers then went to a homeless campsite at Place to Play Park on West Third Street where they believed Gonzalez Gonzalez may have been staying.
They found him at the campsite and while talking with him, found the rest of the laptops and two-way handheld radio that were taken from the burglary at Helen Lehman Elementary, Marconi said.
"Additionally, officers found an illegally modified 12 gauge 'sawed off' shotgun with 56 rounds of ammunition, and they also found a single shot flare gun painted silver to look more like a firearm," Marconi said.
Gonzalez Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and violation of probation.
Additional booking charges of looting and conspiracy to commit a crime were filed against Malicay and Gonzalez Gonzalez, police said.
"This is due to the fact that they committed a burglary of the elementary school while there was a declared state of emergency due to the COVID-19 Shelter in Place orders," Marconi said.
Jail records showed Gonzalez Gonzalez remained in custody late Tuesday in lieu of $30,000 bail pending a court appearance Wednesday.
Malicay appears to have been released from custody.
