Parolee Wanted In Police Chase Spotted At Starbucks, Arrested: PD

UPDATED: Santa Rosa police searching for Kevin Angulo saw him pull into a Starbucks drive-through on Stony Point Road and made their move.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — UPDATE: A parolee wanted by Santa Rosa police after allegedly hitting a police car Tuesday morning and leading officers on a stolen vehicle chase to Rohnert Park before ditching the stolen car, was taken into custody Tuesday night at a Starbucks drive-through, police said in an updated news release.

Kevin Alejandro Angulo-Carbajal, 23, who had parole violation warrants for his arrest prior to Tuesday's incident, was apprehended at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when detectives on the lookout for him spotted him pull into Starbucks at 760 Stony Point Road, according to Santa Rosa police Sgt. Josh Ludtke.

Angulo did not easily surrender, the sergeant said.

As Angulo was in the drive-through line with his girlfriend in the car with him — and reportedly unbeknownst to police, the girlfriend's 8-year-old son — detectives waited until he was boxed in by undercover detectives before they made their move.

When a marked police unit drove into the drive-through lane and detectives converged both on foot and in cars, Angulo allegedly accelerated over the drive-through median into the vegetation, hitting another vehicle on as he drove out of the drive-through.

Angulo ran into two more vehicles as he drove out of the parking lot and turned east onto Sebastopol Road, Ludtke said. Angulo collided with another car at Burbank Street and Sebastopol Road as he lost control while trying to turn south, at which point he got out of the car and started to run.

Detectives, however, took him into custody without further incident, Ludtke said.

Police believe Angulo's girlfriend, 31-year-old Sophia Jimenez of Santa Rosa, picked Angulo up Tuesday morning following the alleged stolen vehicle chase that ended in the area of Country Club and Civic Center drives in Rohnert Park.

"Jimenez, knowing that the suspect was wanted, drove Angulo to several locations to assist in concealing him," Ludtke said. "Jimenez had done this while in the company of her 8-year-old son. Jimenez’s son, unbeknownst to detectives, had been in the back seat of the vehicle during the attempt to arrest Angulo in the drive-through. Jimenez and her son were not injured."

Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the initial incident and concealing the suspect, as well as child endangerment for allegedly putting her child in harm’s way in both incidents.

Angulo was booked into jail on suspicion of assault on a police officer, felony evading and parole warrants from the first incident, and a second count of alleged felony evading as well as alleged child endangerment in the second incident, Ludtke said.

Sonoma County jail records showed Angulo and Jimenez remained behind bars Wednesday: Angulo in lieu of $200,000 bail and his girlfriend in lieu of $50,000 bail. Both were scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

ORIGINAL POST: Santa Rosa police Tuesday were actively searching for the suspect in a stolen vehicle pursuit from Santa Rosa to Rohnert Park. Police identified the wanted man as Kevin Alejandro Angulo-Carbajal and said he was last seen Tuesday morning on foot in the area of Country Club Drive in Rohnert Park.

"Police are actively looking for Angulo, and he is currently wanted on warrants for parole violations, assault on a police officer, evading police in a vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle," Santa Rosa police Sgt. Josh Ludtke said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

The incident involving Angulo started at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday when a Santa Rosa police officer spotted a 2019 black Chevrolet Impala that had been reported stolen. The officer saw the stolen sedan parked near a 7-Eleven store on Santa Rosa Avenue and pulled up behind the car and activated his lights, Ludtke said.

The officer got out of his patrol car and was walking toward the Impala when the driver, later identified as Angulo, put the Impala in reverse and allegedly struck the patrol car.

"The officer was able to get out of the way and narrowly avoided being struck," Ludtke said.

Angulo allegedly hit two other vehicles then drove away, at which time a pursuit began.

Officers pursued Angulo as he drove south on Petaluma Hill Road, allegedly at speeds in excess of 80 mph.

"Based on the conditions of the roadway, traffic and safety of the community, the pursuit was terminated," Ludtke said.

Police officers and detectives swarmed the area and soon found the Impala abandoned in the area of Country Club Drive and Civic Center Drive in Rohnert Park, the sergeant said.

The vehicle was towed from the scene for evidence collection but the hunt was still on for Angulo — described as a 5-foot-10-inch, 225-pound Hispanic man.

A reward up to $2,500 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Take Back Our Community Program for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Angulo.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Violent Crimes Investigation Team at 707-543-3590. Callers can remain anonymous, Ludtke said.
