Rape Investigated In Rohnert Park: Police

School officials notified Rohnert Park police that a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a walking path.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — Detectives with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety are investigating a rape reported by a 16-year-old girl this week in Copeland Creek. The girl told another student at the school she attends, and the school in turn notified Rohnert Park DPS at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2.

The victim said she was walking along the Copeland Creek path between Snyder Lane and Country Club Drive at around 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, when she noticed a man was following her. The victim said the man grabbed her, sexually assaulted her along the path, then ran toward Snyder Lane, police said.

The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a heavy accent and a tattoo on his left hand. The victim said the man had on dark clothes and had a silver chain hanging from a pocket of his pants.

Anyone who has potential surveillance video of the area or any information about the suspect or incident is urged to call Rohnert Park DPS Detective Jon Kempf at 707-588-3533.
