Rohnert Park, CA – The Rohnert Park is set to consider appointing assistant city manager Darrin Jenkins on Tuesday night to the recently vacated city manager position. Jenkins is serving as interim city manager after the resignation of three year city manager Gabriel Gonzalez.

Gonzalez took a city manager position with Augusta, Kansas to be closer to his daughter.

“I am excited to have a leader in our city who will keep things going in the right direction,” said Mayor Pam Stafford. “I heard from the community, employees, and business owners that we have the best person to lead our city right here.”

Jenkins lives in Rohnert Park and has been with the city for 10 years. He served as the City Engineer, Public Works Director, Development Services Director and most recently as the Assistant City Manager.

The contract under consideration by the council sets the salary at $189,000.

In what is believed to be a first for the city, the contract removes lifetime retiree medical as a city paid benefit. Although Jenkins is entitled to retiree medical benefits in his current position as assistant city manager, under the agreement Jenkins will not receive retiree medical benefits saving the city over $200,000 in future medical premium payments.

Jenkins will start as city manager on December 1 if the council approves the contract on Tuesday.
