We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "Kids who walk across the street while looking down at their phone"
  • "Snyder Lane construction....too much of a distraction to drivers near a school"
  • "The very dark street crossings!! Especially by the creeks. People wearing dark clothing are impossible to see at night until you are so close it's difficult to stop."
  • "Crosswalks and intersections and pedestrian traffic. Especially with the high volume of college kids driving."
  • "The streets are TOO DARK at night and crime is up. Parks are dark at night and containers get broken into and valuable equipment gets stolen from nonprofits serving the community."
  • "The trails along the creeks are terrifying. I would never allow my children to walk them and would discourage my wife from doing the same. What has the city done to make these pedestrian walkways safer for us?"
  • "Casino related crime. Car burglaries, prostitutes and such things brought by the casino."
  • "U-turns in cross walks and speeding, in front of the middle schools"
  • "The cars coming out of Safeway driveway on to commerce Blvd..."
  • "...the street lights are all bizarrely dim. And many are not placed right at street corners, making intersections dark and therefore dangerous for pedestrians."
