But the fire damaged the wood siding on the north side of the house, part of the garage and the attic above two bedrooms.
The fire also damaged the home's electrical system, making the home temporarily uninhabitable, according to public safety officials.
Investigators determined that the fire started in a plastic yard waste bin, which was stored against an outside wall on the north side of the house.
Ashes from a fireplace fire were put in the bin three days ago.
Investigators believe the ashes smoldered and caught the contents of the bin and the bin on fire. The fire spread to the home.
No one was injured in the fire, public safety officials said.
