PETALUMA, CA — A 46-year-old Rohnert Park man was arrested Monday in Petaluma after officers responded at 6:17 p.m. to reports of a suspicion person passing counterfeit money at several stores in the Petaluma Village Premium Outlets center, 2200 Petaluma Blvd. North, police said. Staff at the outlets center believed it was the same man who tried to pass counterfeit money the previous night, Petaluma police Sgt. Lance Novello said in a news release.

"Officers saw the suspect inside a clothing store and advised employees of the circumstances," Novello said. "The suspect attempted to purchase merchandise with counterfeit bills but was denied."

Once the suspect came out of the store, he was detained by officers.

Officers searched Burr's residence pursuant to the terms of his probation and found several hundred dollars in suspected counterfeit bills, as well as more suspected stolen merchandise and a controlled substance, the sergeant said.

Burr was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of theft by counterfeit currency and was being held without bail, sheriff's jail records showed Tuesday morning.

Burr's case will be forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service, which oversees counterfeit currency matters, Novello said.
