Rohnert Park Police Address Catalytic Converter Thefts
The thefts are happening throughout the city, with the Toyota Prius a primary target, police said.
ROHNERT PARK, CA —Not unlike cities in the Bay Area, the state and across the country, catalytic converter thefts are happening in Rohnert Park, police said.
The unfortunate trend was discussed during "Chat With The Chief," a virtual forum held Tuesday nights.
Similar to thefts reported in Petaluma, the Toyota Prius has been the vehicle of choice lately, Rohnert Park police said. A converter from a Prius comes with a high reward because it has more metal.

"The converters contain several precious metals and we tend to see more thefts as the value and price of these metals increase," police said.
The thefts are happening throughout the city and while the Prius has been a primary target, police said thieves have taken converters from other cars as well.

Here are ways Rohnert Park police said residents can avoid becoming a victim:
- Park in well-lit areas.
- If you have a security camera, park your vehicle in camera view. The camera can be a deterrent or capture the thief.
- Consider anti-theft options such as an alarm or there are products on the market that act as a shield for your converter.
- Listen for cutting tool noises, such as a high-powered saw.
- If possible, park in a garage.
- Watch for vehicles in your neighborhood with no apparent purpose.
