Rohnert Park Police Arrest Suspected Burglar

Police in Rohnert Park on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with a residential burglary.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — Police in Rohnert Park on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with a residential burglary.

On Wednesday at 9 p.m., the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 400 block of Santa Alicia Drive.

Police said the caller reported seeing several subjects climbing through the window of an adjacent apartment and knew they were not residents of the apartment.

A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter was also in the area and responded to the apartment, and the crew saw a man running from the area of the apartment and discarding items in some bushes.

The helicopter crew notified police of the location of the items, which were returned to the owner.
Police located the suspect, identified as Joel Mendoza, 35, of Santa Rosa, on a nearby path, and he was taken into custody.

Police said it turned out the suspect knew the resident, and the burglary was a targeted incident.
