Rohnert Park Resident Stabbed At Sebastopol Flea Market

The victim said the suspect asked him for a dollar, then hit him over the head with a blunt object and stabbed him in the arm and stomach.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A man was stabbed Sunday at a Sebastopol flea market and the suspect in the stabbing remains at large, a Sonoma County sheriff's sergeant says. The victim, a 32-year-old Rohnert Park man, called authorities at about 4 p.m. Sunday, saying he had been attacked and stabbed in his stomach, sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Crum said in a news release.

Deputies responded to Midgley's Country Flea Market on Gravenstein Highway South, where they found the victim suffering from several stab wounds, Crum said.

The victim was treated at the scene, then taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment of injuries described as not life-threatening.

Deputies combed the area for the suspect but did not find him, Crum said.

Deputies also responded to the hospital and interviewed the victim, who told them he was at the flea market earlier in the day with his family. He told deputies he drove his family home to Rohnert Park, then came back to the flea market and parked in the far west corner of the main parking lot.

"While he was standing by his truck, the suspect approached him on foot from the west field and asked him for a dollar," Crum said. "When the victim opened his wallet to give the suspect a dollar, the man hit him over the head with a blunt object and then stabbed him in the arm and stomach. The suspect took his wallet and ran back toward the west field."

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-4-inch Hispanic man in his 20s or early 30s who had slicked-back hair, a goatee and mustache, and wore a white T-shirt and baggy black pants.

"If anyone has information about this crime they are encouraged to call sheriff’s detectives at 707-565-2185," Crum said.
