'Safe And Sane' Fireworks Permitted In Rohnert Park This 4th Of July Weekend

Breaking: Those caught with illegal fireworks, however, will face a $1,000 fine, authorities say.

ROHNERT PARK, CA -- As Fourth of July festivities get under way, officials with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety reminded residents that "safe and sane" fireworks are permitted in the city of Rohnert Park between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Friday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 4; however, officials said those caught using or possessing illegal fireworks will face a $1,000 fine.

"The city of Rohnert Park Police and Fire Division will have additional staffing on duty for the 4th of July celebrations," Commander Aaron Johnson stated in a news release. "We would like to remind you that the use of illegal fireworks is a serious violation of the law. Officers will be making arrests and issuing administrative fines of $1,000 for the possession or use of illegal fireworks."

Additionally, Rohnert Park officials said the use of any type of fireworks, including "safe and sane," outside of the hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 30 through July 4, is subject to a citation.

What are "safe and sane" fireworks?

In order to be considered "safe and sane," fireworks must display a State of California, State Fire Marshall Registered Fireworks seal. Otherwise, they are considered illegal.

Rohnert Park officials said the city has a "zero tolerance" policy when it comes to illegal fireworks, and asked anyone who sees someone using, in the possession of, or selling illegal fireworks to call the non-emergency Fire Division phone number at 707-584-2641. Calls can be made anonymously, officials said.
