President Trump made his announcement on Twitter.

SANTA ROSA, CA —President Donald Trump on Wednesday named a man who went to high school in Santa Rosa and law school in Berkeley as the country's new national security advisor.

Robert C. O'Brien graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 1984 and, after getting his undergraduate degree at University of California at Los Angeles, graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Law in 1991.

Trump had appointed O'Brien last year as the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the U.S. State Department, then on Wednesday tapped him to be the new national security advisor, replacing the departing John Bolton.
