Save The Date: United Way of Wine Country's Annual Day of Caring

It's the largest annual volunteer day in our area!

More than 1,000 community volunteers in Sonoma County are set to participate in the United Way of the Wine Country’s 25th Annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, September 9.

Participants come together to positively impact the community through volunteerism by completing more than 60 projects at 45 local nonprofits and at other targeted areas.

“United Way’s Day of Caring makes a tremendous difference in so many ways,” explained Mike Kallhoff, United Way of the Wine Country President and CEO. “In addition to great work accomplished throughout our area, volunteers feel rewarded by uniting toward a common goal and by making lasting changes on the lives of others.”

The volunteer day begins with a rally at Sonoma County’s Administration Center. Members of the community unable to volunteer on this day can visit the rally site until noon to donate children’s books benefiting Free Bookmobile of Sonoma County, clothes for all ages benefiting Goodwill, and nonperishable food items benefiting Redwood Empire Food Bank.

At the event, each attendee test driving a car provided by Hansel Auto Group and Lincoln Motor Company will earn a donation for United Way.

United Way’s Day of Caring is the largest annual volunteer day in our area largely due to the strong support of local organizations allowing employees time off to volunteer in the community. The event draws a large number of volunteers annually, and in 2014, approximately 1,500 volunteers contributed more than 12,000 hours of time valued at $317,000. Day of Caring events are taking place in Mendocino, Lake and Humboldt Counties as well.
