Smoking Material Suspected In Rohnert Park Blaze

ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA — A fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, displaced one resident, and left an Alta Avenue home uninhabitable Tuesday afternoon.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received multiple calls reporting a possible structure fire at approximately 1:37 p.m. The first engine arrived at approximately 1:41 p.m., and crews saw flames coming from the residence’s front door and window.

Firefighters attacked the blaze and contained it to the room where it started and the entryway.

Fire and smoke damaged the residence, prompting officials to red-tag the home. The residence will require further inspection before anyone can occupy it.

Investigators believe discarded smoking material may have started the fire, but the cause remains under investigation.

The displaced resident sought accommodations with family.

The Sonoma County Fire District assisted the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
