SoCo Teens In DUI Crash That Killed 1, Injured 4: Reports
The 17-year-old driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.
NOVATO, CA — A teen was killed and four more were severely injured in a weekend crash in Novato, according to police.
Emergency personnel received several 911 calls around 1 a.m. Saturday about a crash and responded to the scene of the single-vehicle incident at San Marin Drive and Simmons Lane, police said.
Five teens, ages 16-18, were taken to the hospital, where one passenger was declared dead, according to police. The others remained in serious and critical condition as of later Saturday morning, including the 17-year-old driver, who was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Four of the teens are students at El Camino and Rancho Cotate high schools and the fifth previously attended school in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District, according to NBC Bay Area.
The district community is “heartbroken,” and grief counselors and other support will be available Monday for affected campuses, the outlet reported, citing the school district.

Eastbound San Marin Drive was closed for several hours while law enforcement investigated the crash, according to police.
