Sonoma Sheriff Finds Missing Child, 2, Taken By Mother

The child's mother does not have custody and the sheriff's office was investigating it as a kidnapping.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — UPDATE: A 2-year-old girl reported missing Monday from the Sebastopol area has been found and is safe, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said in an update at 3:46 p.m. Monday.

"Shelby and Makenzie Privitt have been located and the child is safe," the sheriff's office said via Nixle. "A very heartfelt thank you to the citizens of this county that called in with helpful information that resulted in the pair being located."

Makenzie Privitt, 2 years old, is believed to be with her mother, Shelby Privitt, who does not have custody, the sheriff's office said.

The toddler was last seen wearing a pink shirt, black pants and pink shoes when she was taken by her mother from the child's grandmother's house.

"The child was placed in the custody of the grandmother and is not supposed to be with her mother," sheriff's officials said in a Nixle alert issued at 11:38 a.m. Monday.

Shelby Privitt is described as a 20-year-old Caucasian woman who is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has blond hair and green eyes and was last seen wearing a brown shirt and jeans.

Shelby and the child were last seen walking eastbound on state Highway 12 toward the Santa Rosa city limits.
