During the forum's opening, he reflected on his time as president of Fresno State University, telling the audience that in the role of chancellor he often misses the energy and vibrancy of a college campus. He smiled, looking out at the room of SSU students, faculty, and staff, and noted that the day’s visit had brought him back to that time, boosting his spirit and reinforcing his passion for the work ahead.
