Summer is here, and the Rohnert Park area is packed with ways to enjoy the season. From outdoor gatherings and local markets to community festivals and family-friendly events, there's plenty happening close to home. Below are some events and activities to add to your calendar. 1. Cotati Kids Day Festival & Parade

When: Saturday, July 11; 8 a.m.–3 p.m.

Where: Downtown Cotati & La Plaza Park | Old Redwood Highway and West Sierra Avenue, Cotati

The 33rd Annual Kids Day Festival & Parade returns to Cotati this year, with the theme of “Cotati Kids Dig Into Fun.” The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast before the parade (all are welcome to participate!), followed by the afternoon festival. The event is free and suitable for the whole family; costumes are encouraged.

2. Sonoma County Hot Air Balloon Classic

When: Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19; 4 a.m.–10:30 a.m.

Where: Sonoma County Fairgrounds | 1350 Bennett Valley Rd, Santa Rosa

One of Sonoma County’s best-known events, the Hot Air Balloon Classic features an early-morning “Glow Show” of balloons, morning balloon launches and tethered balloon rides. For a particularly unique experience, you can add on a hot air balloon yoga class (limited tickets available).

3. Sonoma County Fair

When: Friday, August 7–Sunday, August 16; see calendar for full schedule

Where: Sonoma County Fairgrounds | 1450 Bennett Valley Rd, Santa Rosa

Each year, the Sonoma County Fair brings people together for a week of agriculture, entertainment and community spirit. Guests can enjoy amusement park rides, live music performances, showcases and competitions, along with delicious fair food.

4. Cotati Accordion Festival

When: Saturday, August 15 and Sunday, August 16; see schedule for event and performance times

Where: La Plaza Park | 8167 La Plaza, Cotati

Since 1991, the Cotati Accordion Festival has celebrated its namesake instrument while also raising funds for music programs in local schools. In addition to live accordion performances, the event will also feature a beer and wine tent, 50+ local vendors selling various items and plenty of food options.

5. Party On The Plaza & Farmer’s Market

When: Fridays through August 28 (no event on July 3); 5 p.m.–8 p.m.

Where: Rohnert Park Community Center Complex | 5401 Snyder Ln, Rohnert Park

Summer Fridays in Rohnert Park are a party, transforming the Community Center Complex into a farmer's market with live music and family fun. In addition to local vendors, food trucks and a different performer each night, the grown-ups can grab an adult beverage, while the little ones can explore the kids' area.

6. Summer At The Green

When: Varied dates throughout the summer; see link for dates, times and ticketing information

Where: Green Music Center at Sonoma State University | 1801 E Cotati Ave, Rohnert Park
