Surviving the Emergency Room

Taking a trip to the emergency room can be scary for many different reasons, especially when it involves the one you are caregiving for. Sometimes they just have needs that are more serious and need medical attention. It’s important to remain calm and know they are in good hands. Here are a few tips I found that I think are important to keep in mind in case you have to make a trip to the ER:

 1. Knowledge is key:  Knowing the type of medications the person you are caregiving for can make all the difference. Having a list and being able to provide that kind of information to the doctors can help them figure out what is wrong and what step they should take next.

 2. Timing is everything: Weekends and evenings at the ER can tend to be much busier then during the week. If something happens during the week, don’t wait for the weekend for it to be better. If you are worried that it might need medical attention, don’t hesitate and go.

 3. Patience is a virtue. The ER is good for several things, but their timing isn’t always the best. Be prepared mentally, and physically for a long wait. You could be sitting there for hours before the person you are caregiving for is being seen. Keep in mind that all good things come to those who wait, and once you are being seen, you’ll have all the attention and help could need.

These tips can make an impact when it involves going to the Emergency room. You can’t control when emergencies happen, but you can control how you handle them. Keep in mind these tips, remain calm, and remember your loved one is in good hands. For more tips on cargiving and overcoming the hardships that come with it check out my website.
