ROHNERT PARK, CA — Officers in plainclothes and in uniform converged on a Rohnert Park neighborhood Wednesday when a resident of the Rancho Grande Mobile Home Park called police to report a burglary in progress.

The victim told dispatchers a man came into his home and walked into the bedrooms. The resident said when he stood up to confront the burglar, the suspect came back through the living room, apologized and then left.

The resident told police the suspect — described as a Hispanic man in his 20s who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black face covering, and was carrying a black backpack — took off to the north, into Crane Creek.

"Based on the geography as well as vegetation in the creek, it was difficult to contain the area," police said in a news release about the incident.

For over an hour, officers and a K-9 team from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office searched for the suspect.

Rohnert Park DPS sent out a Nixle alert informing community members that a search was underway in the area of Rancho Grande and Snyder Lane for the suspect in an interrupted burglary. A description of the suspect was also provided.

About 1 p.m., a community member reported that a person who matched the suspect's description was sitting on the porch of a residence on Dexter Circle — more than 2 miles away from Rancho Grande Mobile Home Park.

As officers approached the person, he was still sitting on the porch and was holding stolen mail, police said.

"The suspect did not have any explanation as to why he was there and the homeowner did not know him," police said in a news release.

Officers identified the suspect as Edgar Saul Solorio, 34, of Vallejo.

"After being arrested, officers located a stainless steel .357 revolver matching the description of the earlier burglary," police said.

Solorio was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of burglary, grand theft from a building, grand theft of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property and prowling.

"The Department of Public Safety is grateful for the attentive resident who was able to recognize Solorio and ultimately get a deadly weapon off the street," police said.
