Suspected Deputy Impersonator Arrested For Home-Invasion Robbery In Windsor

A Santa Rosa man who pretended to be a sheriff’s deputy was arrested on suspicion of a Windsor home invasion robbery after a police pursuit early this morning, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

A man living in a trailer on Wilcox Road in Windsor called Windsor police around 1:45 a.m. when he heard a car in his driveway and someone trying to open his door, Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

The intruder said he was from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and ordered the trailer resident to come outside, Focha said.

The resident said a man with a flashlight who was standing by a vehicle frisked him and asked if he wanted to be arrested, Focha said.

The intruder briefly searched the resident’s trailer, then told him to go back inside. As the resident called 911, he heard the car start and saw a dark-colored Volvo leave without its headlights on.

Two responding Windsor police officers saw the car leaving and pursued it as the Volvo drove through stop signs and intersections at 80 to 90 mph south on Starr Road, Focha said.

The Volvo crashed into a large oak tree after the driver failed to make a hard right turn, Focha said.

The driver, identified as Kory Wayne Messer, 27, of Santa Rosa, was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle with his legs pinned under the collapsed dashboard, Focha said.

Windsor Fire Protection District paramedics removed Messer from the car and took him to a hospital for treatment, Focha said.

Police found several semi-dry marijuana plants in the rear of the Volvo, and Messer was arrested on suspicion of home invasion robbery, false imprisonment, impersonating an officer, recklessly evading police, causing serious bodily injury, driving on a suspended license and committing a felony while out on bail, Focha said.

Messer was out on $10,000 bail for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle and getting in a pursuit with Santa Rosa police six days ago, Focha said.

Messer will be booked in the Sonoma County Jail after he is treated for injuries he suffered in the crash, Focha said.
