Teen Girl, Officer Injured In Physical Struggle: Santa Rosa PD

The girl was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of brandishing a knife, battery to an officer and criminal threats, police said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A teen girl and a Santa Rosa police officer both suffered injuries when the girl allegedly became combative with the officer, a police sergeant said. The incident happened when officers responded at about 1 p.m. New Year's Day to a report of a disturbance between neighbors in the 1400 block of Hogrefe Way in the Roseland area, SRPD Sgt. Jeneane Kucker said in a news release.

"The first arriving officer encountered the involved parties and was met with resistance from a female juvenile," Kucker said. "The female, whose name will not be released, was verbally and physically combative with the officer."

The officer attempted to detain the teen using "a departmentally approved takedown," Kucker said.

Once the officer had the girl on the ground, she allegedly continued to resist but the officer overcame and was able to put her in handcuffs, according to the sergeant.

The girl suffered minor abrasions to her hand and face, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Kucker said.

The officer was also treated at a hospital for moderate abrasions he suffered to one of his hands, and for an injury to a finger, the sergeant said.

"During the investigation it was discovered the female had brandished a box-cutter type knife and later threatened to kill her neighbor as she was being taken into custody by the officers on scene," Kucker said.

Once released from the hospital, the teen was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of criminal threats, battery to an officer and brandishing a weapon.
