Two-Alarm Fire Sends Three to Hospital in Rohnert Park

Three of four buildings on Civic Center Drive are uninhabitable.

A 2-alarm fire late Tuesday and early today sent three people to the hospital, according to an official with the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Sgt. T. Moore said the department received a call at 12:07 a.m. and he confirmed the fire was burning in the 900 block of Civic Center Drive.

When officers arrived, residents were screaming that a person was inside the burning building and two officers went inside and rescued the person, Moore said.

The person suffered burn injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The two officers are being treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation, Moore said. In Rohnert Park, police officers are trained as firefighters and firefighters are trained as police officers.

As many as 14 people were displaced by the fire that Moore said appears to have left three of the four apartments in the building uninhabitable.

The Red Cross responded to help the displaced residents. Moore said when fire crews arrived they put the fire almost immediately.

The fire appears to have originated in one of the apartments, he said. He added that an investigator was at this scene this morning and the fire did not appear to be of a suspicious nature.
