On the third Saturdays from November through May and September, naturalists lead free family hikes into the park and share their knowledge of the area’s plants and wildlife.
One-hour hikes start at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Discovery Center. Families can return to the Center after each hike for nature-themed crafts and to explore the touchable tide pool and other exhibits.
The Discovery Center is at the park’s Violetti Road entrance. Parking is $7 or free for Regional Parks members. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring a bottle of water. Heavy rain cancels.
‘First Day of Winter’ Hike
When: Sunday, December 21, 2014 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Where: Tolay Lake Regional Park
Join a Regional Parks ranger for a winter hike at Tolay Lake Regional Park, located in the hills east of Petaluma. Enjoy sweeping views of southern Sonoma County and maybe even San Francisco and learn more about the property’s rich biodiversity and cultural history from a Regional Parks ranger.
If you’re interested in regular use of the park, attend an optional, free orientation for the Tolay Day Use Permit Program (see our activities calendar for dates and times.) Permit holders can use the park on weekends for hiking, biking, riding and picnicking. Free.
Parking free for Regional Parks members or $7 for non-members.
