Vehicle Crashes Into Rohnert Park Business, PG&E Transformer

BREAKING: The incident Friday near Costco resulted in a power outage, a PG&E spokesperson told Patch.

ROHNERT PARK, CA — PG&E and a Rohnert Park business were working Friday to repair damages caused when a vehicle crashed into their property, Patch has learned. PG&E Spokeswoman Deanna Contreras told Patch that just after 7 a.m. Friday, a 4-foot-tall transformer was hit in the 5700 block of Redwood Drive.

"It was completely knocked off the concrete," Contreras said. "Crews are out there working to safely and quickly replace the entire transformer."

According to Contreras, the incident led to an outage affecting 18 customers, 10 of whom were without power since 7:09 a.m. and eight of whom lost power intermittently. Service was restored for all the affected customers by 3:45 p.m. Friday, she said.

Patch has reached out to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety for information about the crash and as of 3 p.m. Friday, was waiting for a response.

Details have not been confirmed but word on the street indicated a vehicle — possibly stolen from a local car dealership — was traveling northbound on Redwood from Rohnert Park Expressway when the driver lost control on a curve at an entrance to Costco, hit a PG&E transformer and crashed into the computer repair business.

Once Patch is able to confirm what happened, we will update this post.
