SANTA ROSA, CA — An 18-year-old from Santa Rosa who had a warrant for his arrest is facing more charges as a result of a traffic stop late Friday night, Santa Rosa police said.

Carlos Santana-Sanchez was pulled over around 11 p.m. Friday by a graveyard-shift officer who saw him fail to come to a complete stop at a red light before crossing a Santa Rosa intersection, police said.

Santana-Sanchez, who had a 17-year-old girl in his car, was taken into custody when the officer ran his record and learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Patricia Seffens said in a news release.

In a search of Santana-Sanchez, the officer found a baggie with around 30 thirty pills believed to oxycodone or counterfeit laced with fentanyl, Seffens said.

In a search of the car Santana-Sanchez was driving, the officer found a subcompact .40 caliber "ghost gun" loaded with a 15-round magazine, Seffens said.

The "unregistered and non-serialized semi-automatic handgun" was found under a blanket that the 17-year-old girl was sitting on at the time of the traffic stop, Seffens said.

In the car, the officer also found more pills, marijuana, more than $2,500 in cash, and a digital scale and packaging commonly used in drug sales, Seffens said.

In addition to the warrant, Santana-Sanchez was booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of numerous charges, including possession of the gun, possession of narcotics for sale, and child endangerment for storing a loaded firearm and dangerous narcotics within the vicinity of a minor, Seffens said.

The girl's name was not disclosed because of her age and because she was a victim in this case, police said.

The intersection where the arrest was made was not clear.
