Wildfire Breaks Out in Lake County, Quickly Grows to 450 Acres

Dubbed the #Elk Fire by CalFire, the blaze is north of Upper Lake.

At 2:45 this afternoon, the Elk Fire had not yet ignited. By 7:45, it had roared through 450 acres and prompted a massive response by emergency crews.

Firefighters already have a line around 20 percent of the fire and they’re working to further contain the blaze.

There have been no injuries, and no structures have been lost.

The fire is burning north of Upper Lake in Lake County. If you’re familiar with the area, the fire is off Elk Mountain Road and Mount Dinger Road.

Calfire, the U.S. Forest Service, North Shore Fire District, Lake County Sheriff’s Office and CHP all have personnel fighting the fire or providing emergency support services.
