ROHNERT PARK, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested Friday night on suspicion of DUI and violating his probation after the Chevy Suburban he was driving flipped onto its side in Rohnert Park, police said in a news release.

Rohnert Park police were alerted at 10:11 p.m. Friday, March 22 by witnesses that an SUV was overturned on Redwood Drive just north of Commerce Boulevard. Witnesses told police a man who climbed out of the Suburban through a broken window was walking away from the scene and other people were chasing after him.

Officers found the Suburban on its side; part of the SUV was on the roadway, the other part in a landscaped area that separates the roadway from a busy local shopping center.

The driver, later identified as 38-year-old David Dudley, was accompanied by witnesses when officers found him a short distance down the road from the Suburban, police said.

Officers determined Dudley was driving the Suburban north on Redwood when it suddenly veered to the right, went over the curb and rolled onto its passenger side.

Police said when officers spoke with Dudley they noticed signs of alcohol intoxication. Officers also discovered Dudley was previously convicted of DUI and is on probation, the terms of which require him to have an interlock device installed in his vehicle.

When Dudley was evaluated for suspected alcohol impairment, police said his blood-alcohol content was determined to .12 percent, whereas the legal BAC limit is for driving is .08 percent.

Dudley, who also was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and without an interlock device, was taken to by ambulance to a hospital to be evaluated for possible injuries and then booked into Sonoma County Jail.

The Suburban was "flipped back onto its wheels by a tow truck and towed from the scene," police said.

Jail records Monday afternoon indicated Dudley was no longer in custody.
