Woman Leads Cops On 120-MPH Chase Down Hwy 101: Rohnert Park DPS

The woman "could not provide any reason for her erratic driving or failing to yield to officers," Rohnert Park police said.

ROHNERT PARK, CA – A Santa Rosa woman is accused of driving at speeds as high as 120 mph Saturday down U.S. Highway 101 from Santa Rosa to Rohnert Park, refusing to stop for officers until a high-risk traffic stop was conducted in Rohnert Park, police said in a news release.

Around 5 p.m. Saturday, a Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officer in a marked patrol car was returning from a training assignment at the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center when he saw a motorist driving erratically southbound on the 101 near the state Highway 12 interchange.

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Sandra Medina-Perez, "crossed all three lanes of traffic and accelerated to approximately 120 MPH after entering the highway in front of the officer," Rohnert Park DPS Sgt. Jeff Justice said in the news release.

The officer turned on his emergency lights and tried to pull Medina-Perez over but she refused to stop, Justice said.

A pursuit ensured and eventually, Medina-Perez yielded near the Todd Road exit; however, she refused to cooperate with officers and sped away again southbound on Highway 101, Justice said.

Multiple officers chased Medina-Perez into Rohnert Park city limits, where she yielded at the intersection of Golf Course Drive and Commerce Boulevard.

A high-risk vehicle stop was conducted and Medina-Perez was arrested without further incident.

"Officers had to stop traffic in all directions around the busy intersection while taking Medina-Perez into custody," Justice said. "Medina-Perez could not provide any reason for her erratic driving or failing to yield to officers."

Medina-Perez was booked into the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony evading a peace officer, according to Rohnert Park police.
