Want to learn to code? Like designing video games? Come learn the basics of programming using Scratch MIT’s programming language for youth coders. Design characters and determine their behavior their surroundings and how players can interact with them. This program is free and introduces young users to concepts such as events loop structures if statements Boolean operators and other programming concepts in a fun colorful atmosphere. Laptops are provided. Space is limited and registration is required. This free program is recommended for children ages 7-12 and is hosted by the Franklin Community Library.

Calling all poets grades 7 through 12! Do you have an original poem that you would like to share? Read your poem and compete for one of the Target gift card prizes. There will be two divisions: 7th-8th grade and 9th-12th grade. Entries will be judged on originality content and presentation. Entry Guidelines: teens must be in grades 7-12 entry must be original work of participant poem must be no longer than one page all entries must be submitted in 12-point Arial font your name school and grade level must appear on the top of the page and all entries must be submitted at least 1 hour before contest begins. We also invite enthusiastic audience members to cheer on the poets. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin Community Library.
