Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. Hate the thought of April 15 — tax day? Don't give it another thought! California storm victims now have until May 15 to file their taxes. That's right. Folks that live in counties under federal emergency declarations have an automatic extension for their tax filing. Placer is one of those counties. You don't have to do a thing to get the extension. "Eligible taxpayers will also have until May 15 to make 2022 contributions to their IRAs and health savings accounts." Now, you can hate the thought of May 15, instead. (irs.gov)
  2. A Granite Bay dog sitter and his girlfriend helped themselves to a $70,000 Christmas present from his employer. When the family returned home on December 22, after being gone for a few days, they noticed jewelry was missing. Deputies noticed some of that jewelry on the suspect's girlfriend in a social media post. "The sheriff's office was able to recover the jewelry with a search warrant on Jan. 9 and return it to the family." The dog sitter and the girlfriend were arrested. (ABC10 via MSN)
  3. The Rocklin City Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that will reduce development fees for affordable housing units in the city. "The intent of the ordinance is to incentivize the creation of more affordable housing units in Rocklin and is part of a series of recent moves by the City Council to meet state mandates to bring more affordable housing to the city." (rocklin.ca.us)
  4. Seven elected officials took the ceremonial oath of office at the Placer County Board of Supervisors meeting on January 10. Among those sworn in by Placer County Superior Court Judge Alan Pineschi were Placer County's Clerk/Registrar-Recorder of Voters Ryan Ronco, District Attorney Morgan Gire, Treasurer-Tax Collector Tristan Butcher, Auditor-Controller Andrew Sisk, District 1 Supervisor Bonnie Gore, Assessor Matt Maynard and District 2 Supervisor Shanti Landon. (placer.ca.gov)
  5. In Placer County, "applications are open for two seats on the Capital Projects Advisory Committee including an at-large seat selected by Placer County officials and a seat representing the lodging community selected by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association." Both seats are available for anyone who is interested, and the deadline to apply is January 25. “Those who have a passion for community service and a vision for the future of our beautiful region should apply," said Tahoe Deputy CEO Stephanie Holloway.
