Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. Roseville first responders were ready and waiting as the current storm system was poised to come through this weekend. They already had crews out working around the clock to clear debris, set up barriers and generally get ready for the impending weather. And residents were ready, too. We've been through this before. My favorite advice for how to get through the storm? Play the ukulele! The Strum Shop owner says you can do it in the comfort of your own home, it doesn't take up a lot of space and "you can't be sad when you're playing a ukulele!" Sage advice, indeed. (FOX40 News)
  2. Here's yet another reminder not to drive through flood waters. Even water that's a foot deep can strand your vehicle, and if the water happens to be moving, it can take your car with it. Placer Sheriff's deputies had to bring in their dive team to rescue a motorist on Highway 65 who didn't heed that warning. The man did end up making it out of the flood waters. According to the sheriff, "he was very lucky." Let's all say it together: "turn around. Don't drown." (Placer County Sheriff via Facebook)
  3. It's been heavy snow and strong winds throughout the weekend in Tahoe, and those conditions are expected to last through tomorrow night. Everyone is advised to leave their skis in the closet and not attempt to get up to the mountain, at least through the next few days. (Placer County Sheriff via Facebook)
  4. Citrus Heights is seeing its share of weather-related emergencies, as well. According to City Manager Ash Feeney, the city fielded 335 storm-related emergency calls since December 30, 2022. That's up from the usual 75 calls per week that Citrus Heights answers. Feeney credits storm drain and creek maintenance programs as having “really paid off. I know there was flooding out there on certain streets, but (the city) did not see widespread flooding that we’ve seen sometimes in the past — and this was a major event,” Feeney said.
