- January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month. To raise awareness, on January 24 members of the community will be pouring red sand in sidewalk cracks at two locations in Placer County, to represent the victims who may be "falling through the cracks." The public is invited to join. One of the locations is in Roseville at the Santucci Justice Center, 10810 Justice Center Drive, Ste. 100. at 1 p.m. If you wish to participate independently, you can also pick up red sand at one of the Children’s System of Care offices in Rocklin and Auburn. (Roseville Today)
- Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) filed a lawsuit against PG&E for breach of contract. PG&E disclosed that it intends to transfer "substantially all" of its Placer assets, including the Drum-Spaulding Hydroelectric Project, to one of its subsidiaries. This facility is "the principal source of water for Placer County residents and businesses." PCWA contends that the contract it has with PG&E requires a six-month advance notice before sale of the Drum-Spalding facilities, and it was not given that notice. (Roseville Today)
- Yuba City bested Roseville High's varsity basketball team with a final score of 79-72 in Yuba City on Tuesday night, but it was far from a sure thing. Yuba trailed Roseville by 9 points at the end of the third quarter. "The loss dropped the [Roseville] Tigers to 8-11 on the season, 0-3 in league."(Gold Country Media)
- Folsom Lake is at a higher level this year than it was at any time last year. That's good news indeed, but the good news is not unique to our reservoir. All of the reservoirs in California are showing impressive levels. KCRA has the stats for all of the reservoirs in the state. My favorite? As of Tuesday, Shasta Lake was at 52% of its capacity, compared to 34% a year ago. "You could take a full Folsom Lake and dump it into Shasta, and that's what we did." Wow. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Citrus Heights has been designated a Tree City by the Arbor Day Foundation for the last five years. The city is applying for the designation again this year. According to Meghan Huber, Citrus Heights’ director of economic development and community engagement, ensuring the city has enough healthy trees to receive this designation is important for Citrus Heights, "because a healthy urban forest can absorb traffic sounds, reduce heat in neighborhoods, reduce energy costs and more."
