Nourishing Hope: Annapoorna Marks Three Years of Serving Comfort Food at The Gathering Inn Roseville
Annapoorna USA Foundation serves 200-500 meals every month at several shelters, including The Gathering Inn Roseville.
In a world where simple acts of kindness can completely transform a person’s day, local community service initiatives stand out as beacons of hope. For the past three years, every single month, without fail, Annapoorna USA Foundation’s dedicated volunteers gather to prepare and serve a hearty, home-cooked lunch to approximately 60 guests at The Gathering Inn in Roseville. It is a powerful reminder of how a community can come together to support its most vulnerable members.
Who is the Annapoorna USA Foundation?
Founded with a vision rooted in community nourishment and social welfare, the Annapoorna USA Foundation (annapoorna-usa.org) is a Hindu faith-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with chapters in the Greater Sacramento area and Bay Area. Annapoorna started in 2007 at the Vedanta Society of Sacramento by a few volunteers to provide Hindu meals for the needy. Since then, we have continued to serve over 2500 meals annually from five chapters, including Roseville. The organization takes its inspiration from the Sanskrit word Annapoorna, which signifies the giver of food and nourishment. Living up to this beautiful name, the foundation focuses on community food feeding programs, disaster relief assistance, and partnering with local shelters to uplift individuals in transition.

A Three-Year Legacy of Unfailing Dedication
Consistency is the ultimate hallmark of meaningful charity, and Annapoorna USA’s commitment to The Gathering Inn is a testament to that truth. For 36 consecutive months, through changing seasons and logistical hurdles, the foundation has never missed a date.
The Gathering Inn serves as a vital safety net in Roseville, offering emergency shelter, medical respite, and a pathway to sustainable housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Knowing that a hot, fresh meal will arrive reliably every month provides the shelter’s guests with more than just physical sustenance; it provides a sense of stability, predictability, and dignity.

More Than Just a Meal
When Annapoorna volunteers arrive at The Gathering Inn, they bring the warmth of a family kitchen with them. The team gets home-cooked Indian vegetarian meals filled with nutrition and care, serving about 60 appreciative guests during each visit. In a fast-paced world where processed or packaged foods are common, sitting down to a fresh, home-cooked meal carries immense emotional weight. It signals to the guests that someone took the time, effort, and care to cook specifically for them.
However, the foundation’s generosity does not stop at the kitchen counter. Recognizing that residents in transition often lack basic necessities, Annapoorna USA frequently steps up to provide essential everyday items based on current needs. The items range from seasonal necessities like warm socks and blankets during colder months to personal hygiene kits and daily supplies.
How You Can Get Involved
The impact achieved by the Annapoorna USA Foundation is fueled entirely by the generosity of donors and the energy of local volunteers. For those looking to make a direct difference in their community, there are many ways to support this ongoing mission. Annapoorna invites volunteers in any capacity, from high school students to professionals. It will provide necessary training for food safety and hygiene.
