- Nurses at Sutter Roseville Medical Center (SRMC) will hold a candlelight vigil at a 6:45 pm shift change on Thursday, October 7th, to call attention to staffing shortages that the nurses say are putting patients and staff at risk. Recent surges in COVID-19 cases have only exacerbated the issue. “As nurses we have been on the frontlines fighting this pandemic for a year and half,” said SRMC intensive care unit nurse Meredith Piggee. “With the ICUs filling up and not enough staff to care for the surge of COVID-19 patients, the nurses are showing serious signs of moral injury." (National Nurses United)
- A new act that went into effect October 1st is changing the way the City of Roseville City Council, boards and commissions take public comments during meetings. City government officials cite efficiency concerns about AB 361's time requirement for call-in public comments during meetings as the reason for doing away with call-in comments entirely. Public meetings will continue to be streamed, but public comment will only be allowed from people attending in person. (City of Roseville)
- A group of Granite Bay High School students staged a protest outside the school to bring attention to alleged sexual misconduct cases they feel school officials are not adequately addressing. "We're hoping that we're going to get some change and that the school is going to take initiative, and educate what consent is," said junior student Ella Joy Bystrowski. The Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed that there is currently one active investigation of sexual battery involving juvenile Granite Bay High School students. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Stuffing the kiddos’ stockings could cost a little more this year as Dollar Tree stores roll out a price increase. Inflation and the rising costs of shipping and labor necessitate the change in price point, but the good news is that the new price ceiling allows the discount chain to carry a wider range of goods. Still a bargain, Dollar Tree is expected to only raise prices to about $1.25 or $1.50. (Business Insider)
