📰 News we're reading

• Break it down: Help keep cardboard recycling sites clean (ca.gov) — Roseville is asking residents to help keep its seven free cardboard recycling sites clean and available by flattening boxes, recycling only clean cardboard, and never leaving trash or overflow on the ground. The city explains how misuse leads to illegal dumping, extra cleanup, and less convenient service, and offers a phone number if bins are full.

• Placer County Training Academy: Day 1 (ca.gov) — Roseville residents now have local officers training in the inaugural Placer County Sheriff Training Academy, which just launched a six-month program for 30 recruits from nine Northern California agencies. With Roseville Police Department participants, the academy aims to boost regional law-enforcement readiness through rigorous classroom work, scenario-based exercises, and fitness before graduation in January 2027.

• After 54 US cities reject its cameras, Flock CEO says 'we're not Big Brother' (thecooldown.com) — Roseville drivers should know local police reported Flock license plate cameras misread plates 71% of the time between 2023 and 2024, raising serious accuracy and privacy concerns. The piece details nationwide backlash, civil liberties criticism, and the company's promised safeguards as it insists it isn't "Big Brother."
